A wine from a historic vineyard in La Aguilera, Valle del Gromejón, Burgos — planted on its own rootstock in sandy soils at 850 meters above sea level, facing northwest.

This wine embodies the Castilian character: austere, shaped by simplicity and restraint, noble and firm in its integrity, with the resilience and strength born only from a demanding land.

Viticulture

Viticulture

Century-old vineyard. Northwest orientation. Harvest date: September 15. Hand-picked.
The 2023 vintage was marked by extreme weather conditions: a cold winter with irregular frosts, followed by a dry and warm spring and summer that accelerated the vine’s cycle. Despite these challenges, the plants reached excellent balance, leading to a long and diverse harvest with grapes of great character.

Winemaking

Winemaking

Fermented in 1,000 kg open vats with manual punch-downs.

Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes

“An austere expression in terms of tannins but with bountiful fresh fruit and violets. Tight-grained with full body. Honest fruit in the long finish. From a small, ungrafted old vineyard of tempranillo and albillo mayor.” Zekun Shuai, James Suckling.
